1. Set Short-Term Goals

When you first begin a project, it’s easy to be motivated and stay on task. But as time goes by, this motivation tends to fade away. To keep up your enthusiasm about a project, set short-term goals instead of long-term ones. By setting small milestones for your progress along the way, you can keep your motivation high even when the finish line is in sight.

2. Evaluate Your Progress

In order to improve your self-discipline, it’s important to evaluate your progress on a regular basis. This will help you to identify any areas where you need to make more effort, and it will also give you a sense of satisfaction as you see your progress over time.

There are several ways to evaluate your progress:

Checklists: Make a list of the goals you want to achieve, and then track how many of them you have accomplished.

Rating scales: Rate yourself on a scale from 1 (low) to 10 (high) for different areas of self-discipline, such as focus, motivation, etc.

Progress charts: Plot your progress over time by recording the date and marking your scores.

3. Get Rid of Unnecessary Distractions

Are you easily distracted? If so, chances are you have a problem with self-discipline. To improve your ability to focus on the task at hand, remove as many distractions as possible from your environment. Turn off your phone and close all irrelevant browser tabs so that you don’t get sidetracked.

5. Find Accountability Partners

One of the best ways to improve your self-discipline is to find accountability partners. These are people who will help keep you accountable and on track with your goals. They can be friends, family members, or coworkers. You can also join online communities or forums where people are looking for accountability partners.

The best tip for accountability partners is to be readily available, but not overbearing. You don’t want them to nag or irritate you. If you find yourself becoming easily irritated with your accountability partner, make sure you keep things in perspective and understand that they are only trying to help. Additionally, if the ways that they provide their accountability are ways that you find helpful, then go for it! If the ways that they provide their accountability are ways that are not productive or not helpful to you, then have a discussion about ways to make things better.

6. Change Your Lifestyle

A new behavior is easiest to build when it becomes a habit. So if you want your self-discipline to become more automatic, then find ways that it can be part of your daily routine. Maybe you always stop for coffee on the way into work, but what if you started stopping at home instead? Or if it’s hard for you to get up at 6 am, you can set your alarm clock to 5:45 every morning instead.
